Kitui East Legislator Nimrod Mbai Firearm Confiscated

Kitui East Member of Parliament Nimrod Mbai was on Wednesday evening released on a sh. 50,000 police bond and his firearm was confiscated.

The Legislator had earlier been arrested after presenting himself at the Kitengela Police Station for allegedly assaulting a Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) employee.

Mbai on Wednesday failed to take a plea at a Kajiado Court after his case was referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution for amendment of charges.

The MP will now be charged in court on July 11, 2023, with assault, electricity theft, and illegal power connection.

In a video that has now gone viral on social media, Mbai was on July 3, 2023, caught on camera insulting and slapping a Kenya Power engineer who had gone to his residence at Acacia Estate in Kitengela to disconnect an illegal power connection.

In response to the incident, agitated KPLC workers from the Kitengela office on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest from the company’s offices to the Kitengela police station condemning the incident.

The workers lamented that attacks on KPLC employees while at work were a common occurrence with illegal power line connections on the rise. They called on the government to step in and arrest the culprits.
