KOTTONERA FOUNDATION: First edition of Dock Music in Cottonera

In what used to be Dock Number 1, the first edition of Dock Music will take place, a music festival that celebrates the beauty of Cottonera. For this first edition, concerts will be given by Ivan Grech & Band and Versatile Brass on Tuesday 20th September from 7 p.m. onwards.

This activity is organised by Kottonera Foundation with the support of the American University of Malta and the Bormla Local Council. In addition to the main concerts of Ivan Grech & Band and Versatile Brass, other local singers and musicians will participate. This event is free and open to everyone.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli stated that such activities are necessary to give colour and life to our localities. While auguring success for this first edition of this event, she praised the Kottonera Foundation for its commitment to this project. “I encourage the public to attend and enjoy the Maltese talent our country has to offer,” concluded Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.

Chairman of Kottonera Foundation Glenn Bedingfield stated that, “This is the first concert of its kind at the dock. For many years it was a place where thousands of workers earned their living. Today it is a beautiful open space that families can enjoy.” He said that during this year great interest was once again shown for activities to be held in Cottonera, and therefore the Kottonera Foundation will continue to work to make Cottonera a centre of high-level cultural activities.

Paul Borg from Versatile Brass urged the public to attend this concert which he described as, “A concert filled with music appealing to everyone with some of the best local talent”.

In his speech, Ivan Grech stated that, “Cottonera is at the roots of my life. When I sing here the memories of my childhood evoke many beautiful emotions in me.”

President of the American University of Malta Dr Michel Najjar stated that, “As the American University of Malta, we are proud to contribute to such an event by the Kottonera Foundation, as hosting partners. As the American University of Malta, we remain committed towards the Cottonera and the Maltese islands, first of all to become a beacon of higher education, and additionally to continue elevating the area that we are situated in. As hosting partners for such events, we look forward to contributing to more events, be they cultural, historical, educational, and those of entertainment, to make sure that the Cottonera is continuously elevated.”
