Okondjatu police arrest three for 217 Mandrax tablets possession

Three male suspects were on Tuesday arrested on alleged possession of Mandrax tablets at the Okondjatu settlement in the Otjozondjupa Region.

Namibian Police Force Community Affairs Commander in the region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Wednesday said the trio is aged 17, 30, and 40 years.

Mbeha stated that the total of 217 full tablets of Mandrax and a half, which were allegedly found in their possession carries an estimated street value of N.dollars 26 100.

“Members of the police force at the settlement arrested the three during a street patrol when they came across a 17-year-old male juvenile who appeared suspicious,” said Mbeha.

The incident occurred at 12h00 on Tuesday.

“Upon conducting a body search, half a Mandrax tablet was found on the boy, and through a further investigation we established that a camouflage bag which was hidden at an old toilet contained about 217 more Mandrax tablets,” Mbeha said.

Two other male suspects aged 30 and 40 years were then also apprehended in connection with the matter, she said.

All three suspects will appear in the Okakarara Magistrate’s Court this week on possession and/or dealing in Mandrax and also on an attempt to defeat the course of justice.

Police investigations continue.
