Malta’s participation in the Dubai Expo is an occasion for us to showcase Maltese culture, ingenuity, innovation and most importantly promote our credentials as a secure destination for investment.- Minister Cardona

Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses Chris Cardona addressed a business

breakfast titled ‘Expo2020 Dubai’, hosted by Malta Enterprise and The Malta Independent.

During his address, Minister Cardona spoke about Malta’s decision to participate in the expo and explained that this government is committed to attracting more investment. Participation in the Dubai Expo would also give us valuable experience and allow us to prepare ourselves to better protect the interests of Malta in a region that is economically very innovative, stated the Minister. During his speech, Minister Cardona remarked that Malta always had good relations with the UAE and we are looking forward to continue to forge business and diplomatic ties between our two countries as a result of Malta’s participation in this prestigious expo.

The theme chosen for the Expo 2020 is ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’. The organising committee in Dubai revealed how they chose this theme because they are seeking to stimulate and spur creativity, innovation and collaboration between the 192 participating countries. However, the main theme has also been divided into three sub-categories which are ‘Opportunity, Mobility, Sustainability’. Minister Cardona explained that Malta will be participating under the category ‘Opportunity’, as the main objective of Malta’s participation is to target new industries, jobs and education among others. It is estimated that over 25 million visitors will attend throughout the six months.

Mr Anthony Tabone, Commissioner General of Malta to the Expo2020 in Dubai and Mr Omar Shehadeh, Senior Vice President of International Participants of the Expo2020 Dubai also addressed the event.

Malta’s participation will be coordinated by Malta Enterprise under the auspices of the Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses. The Expo will be held from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021.
