Residents Urged To Work Closely With Government Officers

Residents of Mayenje Ward in Busia have been urged to work closely with the National Government Administration Officers to address security issues. Speaking during a funeral ceremony in the area, Busia Deputy County Commissioner Chaka Nyamawi noted that cases of theft were on the rise within Busia town. ‘I want to urge you to work closely with the acting chief to address cases of murders and theft of motorbikes which have become rampant in this town,’ he said. Nyamawi pointed out that a number of motorbikes are being stolen and immediately ferried to the neighboring country of Uganda. ‘I want to assure you that we will end the vice before December,’ he said adding that cases of insecurity in Marachi will also be addressed. Matayos MP Geoffrey Odanga urged the Deputy County Commissioner to take security issues seriously. ‘Cases of insecurity are very rampant in this area,’ he said adding that a boda boda operator who was attacked by unknown persons last month is still undergoing treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral hospital in Eldoret. Odanga expressed fears that cases of insecurity may continue due to the fact that the County Government demolished small scale business premises in Busia town without giving them an alternative area of operation. ‘I want to urge the County Government to provide alternative places of operations to these small-scale traders so that they can continue with their income generating activities,’ he said. He at the same time urged the DCC to deploy enough security personnel to address cases of insecurity within the Sub County. Mayenje MCA Richard Okello urged the local residents to venture into agri- business instead of boda boda business.
