Murang’a East Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Thomas Nyoro, has called upon residents to work together with law enforcement officers to curb insecurity in the area. Speaking during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ihura Stadium in Murang’a town, the DCC assured residents that security issues are being addressed promptly, noting that through partnerships with the public, cases of insecurity had decreased. Nyoro said that there is a need for continued collaboration between law enforcement officers and the public so as to enhance security in the region. To curb theft, he asked residents to support the effort by police officers by employing private security personnel to guard their business premises, as well as installing security lights to deter thieves. ‘Even though police make regular patrol rounds, they need partnership from the public because they cannot be everywhere all the time.’ Nyoro said. He said that the relevant authorities would also do their part and see to it that street lights were installed and functional. Nyoro cautioned residents against livestock theft, saying there were several reported cases of stolen cows and chickens. ‘Ensure that your livestock is well secured and report any suspicious activity to the local authorities immediately,’ he said. The DCC also averred that the fight against illicit liquor is still ongoing, noting that the fight is not against bar operators but against second-generation alcohol and counterfeit alcohol that is harmful to the public. ‘The fight against drugs and illicit alcohol is ongoing, and we continue to apprehend all those found in possession of the drugs and illicit alcohol,’ he said. ‘We continue making random visits to bars to weed out any drinks that are not fit for human consumption and other counterfeits,’ he added. He also challenged residents to heed the president’s call and take part in the green campaign by planting trees in their homes. ‘We are lagging behind Murang’a East, and we need to work together to meet our targets and improve our environment,’ he said. The DCC urged residents to come out in large numbers when called upon to take part in tree planting during the ongoing rainy season.
