Sahelians identify their cultural values ??capable of participating in the fight against insecurity

Ouagadougou: The governorate of the Sahel region organized in Dori, on a delayed basis, the day of traditions and customs in order to lay the foundations for reflection on the impact of the education of traditional values and customary practices on social cohesion.

This day was placed under the theme ‘Reflecting on our customs and traditions for successful generational transmission’.

For the first vice-president of the special delegation from Dori, Boureima Dicko, the choice of his city to hold this meeting is not fortuitous.

According to Mr. Dicko, Dori is a crossroads and cosmopolitan city that is home to all ethnic groups in the Sahel region.

The first vice-president added that Dori therefore constitutes the melting pot of all the customs and traditions of these ethnic groups.

While offering the keys to his city for the holding of the first day of customs and traditions, he wished his guests a good stay in the capital of Liptako.

‘The Sahel region can rejoice in having organized this day of customs a
nd traditions despite the insecurity,’ declared the Minister Delegate for Animal Resources, Mr. Amadou Dicko.

For Mr. Dicko, the celebration of this day is proof of secularism in this part of Burkina Faso, because many people question the opportunity and usefulness of such an action in a strongly Islamized area.

He expressed the hope that this meeting would be an opportunity to identify the cultural values ??of the region allowing a common and harmonious life.

Main communicator of this meeting, Professor Alkassoum Maiga spoke to the participants on the conceptual clarification of terms such as rites, customs, traditions and other related notions.

Above all, he invited the participants to seek solutions to insecurity by drawing resources from the customs and traditions of the region.

To do this, five communities in the region, namely the Peulhs, the Keltamatchek, the Sonrai, the Gourmatché and the Kourounfé, exhibited their cultural heritage.

The governor of the Sahel region, Lieutenant-Colonel Fabien Ro
dolphe Sorgho, warmly thanked the partners whose support made it possible to hold this first day of customs and traditions.
