Second-Generation Ethiopian Diaspora Responding to Call of Prime Minister Abiy


Addis Ababa: Responding to the call of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, members of the second-generation Ethiopian diaspora have continued arriving at their country of origin.

Today, second-generation members of diaspora have arrived from different parts of the world, including Germany, Sweden, and USA.

A national committee that welcomes the second-generation diaspora and coordinates events during their stay has been established.

Various events have been prepared for the second-generation invited by the government to visit their country and to strengthen their bond with their country of origin.

Accordingly, the diaspora have been welcomed by senior government officials and other community members upon their arrival at Bole International Airport.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed invited the second generation of Ethiopian Diaspora to come in three-rounds from 30th December 2023 to the end of September 2024.

The first-round homecoming under the motto “Connect to Your Culture” begins from 30 December 2023 to 29 January
2024.

The diaspora members who came home during that period have celebrated various festivals, including Christmas.

And the second round homecoming dubbed “Connect to Your History” will be during the African Union summit in Addis Ababa.

The third round will be from the upcoming rainy season to 30 September 2024 under the motto “Leave Your Legacy.”

Accordingly, members of the diaspora from different countries have been coming to Ethiopia.
