Eeshoke Chula Chula head coach John Sikerete has expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of their away match against Debmarine Namibia Premiership defending champions African Stars.
Round six of the Premier League saw Eeshoke Chula Chula travelling to Windhoek for a match against African Stars at the Hage Geingo Stadium on Saturday.
The northern club managed to come from behind to equalise one-all and collected the much-needed point away from home in front of over 10 000 spectators who filled up the Hage Geingob Stadium.
It was the first time in the history of Namibia football that the Katutura-based outfit African Stars were outnumbered in terms of supporters on their home game.
Despite this, African Stars opened the scoring through their talisman Willy Stephanus in the 41st minute after a tough first half that saw both teams going head-to-head.
However, Eeshoke Chula Chula, the newly promoted team, continued with their fighting mentality in the second half, which started strongly.
Both teams created chances but failed to capitalise on them. Chula’s second-half substitute, Joao Bibi, found an equaliser for his team after the indecisiveness of the Stars defender saw him scoring the equaliser and earning a point for the northern boys.
After the match, Sikerete told Nampa that he was proud of his youthful squad’s results.
“The team had fighting spirit, despite their lack of experience. It’s important for us to collect points while on the road if we are to fulfil our goal and aim of remaining in the country’s elite league,” he said.
He added that with the season getting harder, it’s essential to collect points away from home, which in the long run will help them on their position in the log standing.
In other matches played over the weekend, UNAM FC lost 3-0 against FC Ongos on Friday, while Pirates lost 0-1 against Mighty Gunners on Saturday, and Young African collected maximum points in Otjiwarongo with a 2-1 win against Life Fighters.
