Through an investment of around €40,000, regeneration works have been completed in the garden of Pjazza Patri Redent Gauci in Fgura.
This was announced by Fgura Local Council in the presence of Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia and Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government José Herrera.
Interventions include landscaping, the installation of benches, security cameras, and rubber flooring amongst other works.
Minister Aaron Farrugia commended this initiative by the local council to regenerate an open space in the community and explained that due to the need to have a greener environment in urban areas, Ambjent Malta had a part in this project by planting 200 trees and shrubs.
While urging local councils to consider more green projects, Minister Farrugia said that such interventions will continue improving the urban environment in our country and improve the quality of life for all. Minister Farrugia explained that the government is continuing to strengthen its commitment to increase initiatives to improve and regenerate the Maltese rural and urban environment, as a number of urban areas are benefitting from greening and afforestation projects by Ambjent Malta and Greenserv, as well as through funds from the Development Planning Fund of the Planning Authority.
“This is a comprehensive project as it respects the environmental aspect while at the same time providing a creative and open space for the community. It has become indispensable to have similar projects so that our communities have open spaces that are necessary for their well-being,” stated Minister Herrera.
“We are honoured to inaugurate this project as a council to see children safe in their free time, a project that will offer reassurance to them and to their parents. We took the opportunity to start work during the pandemic so that it would be ready immediately after work, a project that brings together the involvement of many different Fgurin associations,” Fgura mayor Pierre Dalli said.
