THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER Greek ambassador pays farewell call on the Speaker

Dimitrios G. Tsoungas, Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic, paid a farewell call on Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anglu Farrugia.

Speaker Farrugia welcomed Ambassador Tsoungas and acknowledged the hard work carried out by the ambassador during his posting in Malta, whereby the very strong bilateral relations existing between Malta and the Hellenic Republic, established in 1966, could be further strengthened. He added that these ties have been reinforced by high-level exchange visits and meetings, including the State Visit of President Karolos Papoulias in February 2014. He also mentioned his recent visit to Athens last October to participate in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament.

Speaker Farrugia referred to the good relations between the two parliaments and recalled the composition of the Malta-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group. He mentioned the Maltese diaspora in Greece, with particular reference to the Maltese in Thessaloniki.

Speaker Farrugia and Ambassador Tsoungas discussed various issues of mutual interest, including the cooperation between Malta and Greece in the ambit of MED7, which has recently been increased to MED9.

Migration and COVID-19 were also discussed.
