THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER Speaker Farrugia receives a courtesy call from the French Ambassador

Speaker Anglu Farrugia received a courtesy visit from Ms Agnès Von Der Mühll, the Ambassador of the French Republic to Malta.

After welcoming Ambassador Von Der Mühll, Speaker Farrugia said that Malta particularly values the French role on Mediterranean issues, including Libya. He added that Malta supports the French efforts in upholding and safeguarding global peace, particularly through the Paris Peace Forum. He referred to the Maltese community in France, which had emigrated to France from Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia during the revolts of the late fifties and early sixties.

Speaker Farrugia and Ambassador Von Der Mühll discussed issues of mutual interest, including parliamentary relations, in particular the revival of the Parliamentary Friendship Group between the two institutions. They also referred to the proposed visit to Malta of Senator Christian Cambon, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces Committee of the French Senate.

The political situation in the two countries, following the recent elections, as well as the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine also featured in the discussion.
