Study: Climate Change Made UK Heat Wave Hotter, More Likely

Human-caused climate change made last week’s deadly heat wave in England and Wales at least 10 times more likely and added a few degrees to how brutally hot it got, a study said. A team of international scientists found that the heat wave that set a new national record high at 40.3 degrees Celsius was made stronger and more likely by the buildup of heat-trapping gases from the burning of coal, oil and natural gas. THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT: The President of Malta meets the Maltese athletes who will compete in the Commonwealth Games

On the eve of the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony in Birmingham in the United Kingdom, President George Vella and Mrs Miriam Vella met with the Maltese contingent. In his message to the athletes at the University of Birmingham, where some of the Maltese athletes are staying, President Vella wished them every success, and commended their dedication and commitment in their respective disciplines. The President thanked the athletes’ managers and trainers for their support in training and in such sporting events. Twenty-nine athletes will represent Malta in nine sport disciplines: athletics, badminton, cycling, judo, lawn bowls, wrestling, squash, triathlon, and weightlifting.
