AfDB Commits to Support Ethiopia’s Economic Reform Initiatives: Bank’s Chief Statistician


Addis ababa: The African Development Bank (AfDB) has expressed its readiness to support Ethiopia in implementing ongoing economic reforms, commending the country for utilizing the necessary statistical systems to guide these reform policies.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, AfDB Chief Statistician Vincent Negendakumana highlighted the significance of Ethiopia’s reforms, noting that the country’s development sets a benchmark for other African nations. He emphasized that the African Development Bank is poised to assist Ethiopia in realizing these reforms, recognizing the importance of sound policies supported by reliable statistics to achieve desired developmental outcomes.



Negendakumana underscored the role of statistical capacity building in member states, emphasizing the bank’s commitment to enhancing statistical systems through various programs. He pointed out that agriculture statistics are crucial for the development of African nations and expressed the bank’s enthusiasm in aiding Ethiopia to enhance its administrative data system with modern technology.



Ethiopia’s achievements, particularly in agriculture, were lauded by the Chief Statistician, attributing success to the government’s strong commitment and resource allocation. He praised the nation’s robust institutional framework and strategic collaborations with line ministries, enabling effective resource mobilization and statistical operations.



The Chief Statistician also appreciated Ethiopia’s adherence to international standards in producing accessible and high-quality statistical data for national, regional, and global use. He reaffirmed the African Development Bank’s dedication to bolstering statistical capacity in member states, ensuring robust systems that produce quality data to inform development policies.



Lastly, Negendakumana stressed the importance of quality statistical systems in achieving African Union and global agendas, including sustainable development goals, noting that reliable data is essential for measuring progress in policy implementation.
