Brazilian Aircraft Manufacturer Embraer Eyes Investment in Ethiopia’s Aviation Sector


Addis Ababa: Embraer, a Brazilian multinational aircraft manufacturer, has expressed keen interest in exploring investment opportunities across Ethiopia’s burgeoning aviation sector. The company’s executives, joined by the Deputy Ambassador of Brazil to Ethiopia, Jackson Lima, met with Alemu Sime, Ethiopia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, to discuss potential areas of collaboration.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the meeting highlighted the Ethiopian government’s strategic focus on aviation as a vital component of national development. Minister Alemu emphasized the ongoing success of Ethiopian Airlines, which continues to connect Africa to the rest of the world and serves as a symbol of continental pride. He also noted the presence of numerous private operators in the aviation industry, identifying aircraft maintenance and aircraft body manufacturing as viable areas for foreign investment.



Representatives from Embraer expressed their appreciation for Ethiopia’s growing focus on aviation and reiterated their interest in contributing to the sector. They proposed collaboration in aircraft maintenance, parts manufacturing, and aviation training, areas where they have significant expertise. Additionally, the delegation expressed readiness to supply aircraft tailored to the operational needs of Ethiopian Airlines for domestic flights.



Minister Alemu also discussed the development of an international airport in the Bishoftu area, describing it as a transformative project that would further enhance Ethiopia’s role as a regional air transport hub. The meeting concluded with both parties expressing a commitment to advancing collaborative efforts, with Ethiopia’s Minister affirming support for partnerships with Embraer and other global aviation leaders.



Embraer is recognized globally for producing a wide range of aircraft that serve both commercial and cargo needs.
