Ethiopia Determined to Play Role in Improving Int’l Freight Logistics Dev’t: Transport & Logistics Minister

Transport and Logistics Minister Alemu Sime said Ethiopia is committed to playing its role for the improvement of the international freight logistics development.

The remark was made at the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA) meeting that aims to accelerate progress in the logistics industry.

Speaking at the two-day meeting that kicked off today in Addis Ababa, Transport and Logistics Minister Alemu Sime said the holding of FIATA’s meeting in the country is an indication of Ethiopia’s good performance in the sector.

Economic growth and trade depends on efficient freight transport to supply goods to the market, he noted, adding that the conference would have great importance to identify the problems in the cargo loop and suggest solutions.

In this regard, the minster stated that Ethiopia is determined to do its part to solve the problems in the freight logistics sector.

According to him, Ethiopia has submitted a tender document to host the FIATA 2026 Congress as part of its 100th anniversary.

FIATA Director-General, Stephane Graber said on his part that Ethiopia has been working hard to improve the logistics industry in the past few years.

Graber also expressed the readiness of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association to support the logistics sector in Ethiopia.

Ethiopian Freight Forwarders and Shipping Agents Association (EFFSAA) Board Vice President, Dawit Wubshet said the holding of FIATA conference in Ethiopia will help to facilitate the operation to meet the needs of African countries.

He added that the conference creates a good opportunity for Ethiopia to promote its strategic role in air cargo transport in its neighboring and surrounding countries.
