Students joining universities have been urged to select the right institutions that are ISO certified and offer marketable courses to be able to excel and achieve career goals, Zetech University Vice Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene has said.
Munene said research on universities will enable students to get a better understanding of the institutions, their competitiveness globally and the facilities that they have for quality training.
The VC who spoke at the University’s Ruiru Campus while addressing the May 2023 intake students said millions of students are being churned out of the universities globally, thus the need for marketability to help the students get jobs.
He said it is important for students to join universities that have ISO certification since they have high competitiveness, quality training, enhanced customer satisfaction and culture development as per the standards set.
“ISO Certification allows the career growth and quality of training. All institutions should endeavor to achieve such standards for better training given the ever-increasing competition among universities in the world today to be able to compete strongly. This enables the University to stand out, to have a higher international rating, and to attract more reputable stakeholders, both students and partners,” he noted.
The University Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Alice Njuguna called on students to integrate theory and practical skills so as to have a cutting-edge advantage in the job markets once they complete their studies.
“From mandatory training on employability, entrepreneurship, and ICT to regular industry visits and immersion programs; students gain invaluable exposure to real-world practices and build essential networks with industry professionals,” she said.
The VC added that universities also need to embrace strong linkages and collaborations with industry experts to provide opportunities for internships, industrial placements, and mentorship programs.
“Connecting students with industry leaders opens doors to endless possibilities and paves the way for a rewarding career,” she said.
