THE MINISTRY FOR THE ECONOMY, EUROPEAN FUNDS AND LANDS: Pilot project – Park and Ride service within the Central Business District

As from next Monday, employees working in the various factories and other workplaces situated in the Central Business District of Mrieħel will be able to start making use of a free Park and Ride service. Visitors can also make use of this service.

During a visit, Minister for the Economy, European Funds and Lands Silvio Schembri, who was accompanied by CEO of the Central Business District Keith Fenech, was shown the last preparations in the zone where the workers will be parking their cars and boarding a van which will drive them close to their respective workplace.

“Here we are witnessing a change in this area, an initiative led by the Central Business District which, along with a number of companies that operate in the area, is making the lives of hundreds of workers easier by means of the car park and the van service, saving time in the process. The same Park and Ride service is also available for visitors,” Minister Schembri said.

The minister highlighted how this area, which was previously known as the Mrieħel Industrial Estate, has changed and plays host to a number of companies and factories that employ hundreds of workers. “This pilot project is not unique, as several other works have been carried out in the last months in a bid to upgrade the area, including the installation of new signage and lighting, road maintenance, embellishment of gardens, and enhanced security.”

Keith Fenech explained that this service will be provided between Mondays and Fridays between 7:00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m. and between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., excluding public holidays. He added that during these timeframes, the van will drive around the industrial area which has a total of 13 stops which are thought to be the most convenient of stops for the majority of workers in the zone.
