New Picnic Area in San Klement Park in Zabbar

More than 2,000 metres squared in open spaces returned to the public as a picnic area in San Klement Park, Zabbar, to be accessible to all residents.

This extension has been officially inaugurated by the Minister for the Environment Miriam Dalli, together with the CEO of Project Green Steve Ellul, after work conducted to regenerate the area.

In this area, more than 250 trees and shrubs have been planted while part of the wall of the football ground is being treated with Jasmine to create a natural green wall. The regeneration of the garden included the removal of invasive species and the installation of benches made from sustainable material. Moreover, with the reinstatement of the surrounding rubble wall and chainage fencing, this green open space became safer.

“Project Green, by planting more trees and with minimal intervention, returned this new picnic area to the community as a safer and more comfortable space. This is just the beginning – we are working on similar projects in various localities”, stated Minister Miriam Dalli.

Minister Dalli stated that these open spaces are used for various activities, including children’s parties. “Thus, even our kids can grow closer to nature, recognizing the importance of incorporating them in their daily lives.”

CEO Steve Ellul stated that in less than a month, this agency is already showing results in our communities with projects that will return green open spaces to residents.

“With this project, around 11,000 residents will have a green open space in less than 10 minutes walking distance from their residence. This is one of the objectives of Project Green which we are determined to deliver,” said Steve Ellul.
