Trump Heads to Alaska for Ukraine Talks with Russian Counterpart Putin

Anchorage: US President Donald Trump is en route to Alaska for a high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, aimed at discussing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In a statement made before his departure, Trump emphasized the potential outcomes of the summit, stating, “If it’s a bad meeting, it’ll end very quickly, and if it’s a good meeting, we’re going to end up getting peace in the pretty near future.”

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the meeting comes at Putin’s suggestion, with Trump remaining cautious about the discussions. The US President has warned that the summit could conclude rapidly if Putin does not show a willingness to compromise. The situation is being carefully observed by European leaders and Ukraine’s President Zelensky, who have been excluded from the meeting.

During a conversation with reporters aboard Air Force One on his journey to Alaska, Trump mentioned that land swaps would be a topic of discussion, though he stressed that the decision ultimately lies with Ukraine
. “They’ll be discussed, but I’ve got to let Ukraine make that decision, and I think they’ll make a proper decision. But I’m not here to negotiate for Ukraine. I’m here to get them at a table,” Trump remarked. He further asserted that under his leadership, Putin would not be able to take control of Ukraine, implying that his presidency has been a deterrent to such actions.
